"Trailblazing Women in Industry & Labor"

HONORING TRAILBLAZING WOMEN IN INDUSTRY AND LABOR FEATURING: Mary Harris “Mother” Jones: The March of the Mill Children

In the spring of 1903 Mother Jones, a forceful & controversial labor leader, left the Philadelphia area with striking textile workers including 16,000 children to march 125 miles to the Oyster Bay, Long Island home of President Roosevelt. The three-week march was part of the fight for fair wages & decent working conditions for workers. Betsey Means, Artistic Director of Woman Lore, portrays Mother Jones. Woman Lore is dedicated to bringing little known women of history to life by adapting the women’s own writings. Through her rousing performance Betsey entertains & inspires with this example of what one dedicated woman can accomplish.
